What is a commercial lawyer?
A commercial lawyer is one that practices in the field of business and commerce. They are not necessarily specialists, but they are experts in what they do. A specialist lawyer has a focus on one narrow field of law. For example, a Business Law Specialist normally practices in this area to the exclusion of related areas of commercial law such as Property Law and Intellectual Property. This can present a limitation in situations which call for expertise in areas outside the scope of specialisation. For example, a typical sale of shares in a private company would normally require expertise in Business Law, Company Law and most likely also Intellectual Property.
