191 Skilled Regional Visa (Permanent)

 

The 191 skilled regional visa is a permanent visa for people who have lived, worked and studied in designated regional areas in Australia on a previous, eligible visa.

 

To be eligible to apply applicants:

  • must hold a regional provisional visa subclass 491 or 494 visa when they apply for the Subclass 191 visa, and have held that visa for at least three years;
  • must have earned the minimum income for at least three years as the holder of a regional provisional visa; and
  • must have complied with the conditions of the regional provisional visa.

 

Each state nominates a limited number of skilled migrants per year. Minimum eligibility requirements and assessment criteria are used to select the highest applicants with the greatest chance of finding employment and settling in each state.

 

In addition to obtaining sponsorship from a participating State or Territory government and passing a points test. Points can be claimed in areas related to age, English language ability, specific work experience skills and other bonus categories.

 

The 191 skilled regional provisional visa allows you to:

  • stay permanently.
  • work and study anywhere in Australia.
  • Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence.
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.

To qualify for skilled migration, applicants must also be able to satisfy the visa requirements related to age, English language ability, occupation, skills, qualification, health and character.

 

Note: Unless you have held your subclass 191 visa for 3 years, you cannot make a valid application for a subclass 820 (Partner) visa or be granted 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme), 188 (Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional)), 189 (Skilled (Independent)), 190 (Skilled (Nominated)) or 858 (Distinguished talent).

 

The current pass mark for the Skilled Regional Sponsored visa (Subclass 191) is 65 points.

☐ Completed a Degree, Diploma, or trade qualification from Australian registered RTO completed in 16 calendar months; totalling a minimum of 2 years of academic study; instructed in English on a valid study visa.

Credentialled Community Language

☐ NAATI accreditation for interpreting a foreign language.

Studying and living in Regional Australia

☐ If you have studied in a regional area for at least 2 academic years.

Partner skills

☐ If your partner is included in your application and has the following: Meets Age criteria; Has evidence of English ability; Has positive skills assessment at the time of invitation of EOI.

SC190 Skilled Nominated visa.

☐ If you have applied for SC 190 skilled nominated visa and you have been nominated by a state or territory government for the visa application and the minister has accepted the nomination.

SC489 Designated Area Sponsorship

☐ If you have applied for SC 489 (provisional visa and being sponsored by and eligible relative living in a designated area.
